Isolated gene can be transferred (transgenosis) into a suitable recipient cell by electroporation, microprojectile method or by using a suitable vector.
Transfer of certain genes by a viral vector from the previous host into the new-one is called transduction, and is beneficial to the bacterium only if viral infection is lysogenic and not lytic. Transduction can benefit both male and female bacteria.
In every species of bacteria, certain cells have an additional/extra-chromosomal stretch of circular DNA referred to as plsmid/episome/fertility factor or F-factor/sex factor. Cells possessing plasmid are catogerized as male while the ones lacking it, as female cells.
Operon concept presented by Jacob and Monod explains the mechanism of gene regulation only in prokaryotic organisms
Restriction endonucleases act as specific scissors to excise and isolate a gene from its original location in the genome.
