There are three categories of carbohydrates: Monosaccharides, Oligosaccharides, Polysaccharides
Classification of monosaccharides: Monosaccharides are classified into five categories on the basis of number of carbon atoms (3-7): Triose, Tetrose, Pentose, Hexose, Heptose.
Pentose and hexose occur in both structural forms i.e. open chain and closed chain.
Oligosaccharides is the carbohydrates formed by 2-9 saccharide units joined by glycosidic bonds
