Tips and Tricks on Metals And Non-metals

Atoms and ions have a high tendency to complete their octet either by losing or gaining of electrons or sharing of electrons.

A chemical bond is the force which holds various constituents such as atoms, ions etc, together in different chemical species. Molecules which contain less than 8 electrons in the valence shell are called electron deficient. While those which contain more than eight electrons in the valence shell are called hypervalent or superoctet molecules.

The number of atoms lost or gained by an atom, is called the electrovalency of that atom. Usually low ionisation energy, high electron affinity and high lattice energy favour the formation of ionic bond.
