Formulae on Mineral Nutrition

Boron is the chemotropic factor guiding the course of growing pollen tube within the pistil towards the egg apparatus.

Contemporary understanding is that the uptake of mineral ions is mostly endergonic (energy requiring) selective and can be against the concentration gradient. Uptake of certain mineral anions (like chloride and nitrate) may however be largely passive.

Passive (and non-selective) absorption concept can not explain as to why the uptake is inhibited by the presence in soil of respiratory inhibitors such as cyanides and azides, phenomenon of salt respiration, and also the selectivity of ionic uptake.
