TYLOSES ARE OUTGROWTHS ON PARENCHYMA CELLS OF XYLEM VESSELS OF SECONDARY HEARTWOOD. WHEN THE PLANT IS STRESSED BY DROUGHT OR INFECTION,TYLOSES WILL FALL FROM THE SIDES OF THE CELLS AND "DAM" UP THE VASCULAR TISSUES TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE PLANT.
