It is mixture of both autotrophic as well as heterotrophism. When they are in the proximity(close to) of sunlight they go for autotrophism. When they are in dark areas they go for heterotrophism. As they are mainly aquatic dark and bright areas can be defined as deep and shallow areas of the body. They can be mainly put under category animal because they do not have a cell wall and are heterotrophic. But they contain chloroplast cells which help them in photosynthesis. Therefore they can neither be called animal nor plant.
