Alkenes usually undergo addition reactions to give alcohols. When an alkene first reacted with dil. sulphuric acid followed by hydrolysis to give alcohols(1 degree)

Alekenes also undergo hydroboration oxidation process to get alcohol..rather a primary alcohol in which alkene is reacted with B2H6 followed by H2O2... Another reaction is oxymercuration demercurtion in which alkene reacts with Hg (OAc)2 followed by NaBH4 in this reaction no carbocation is formed..
