Speed of the river- u Speed of the ship - v Distance= speed*time =x Distance upstream = distance downstream So, 3(v-u)= 2(v+u)= x Solve to get 5u=v 2(v+u)=x So, 2(5u+u)=x 12u=x Thus, u=x/12 Hence, the time needed= 12hours
