![]() | Posted on : 05:40:51 PM on November 24, 2009 Both Ionization and dissociation constants are similar terms. There
can be both acid and base ionization constants. An acid dissociation constant, Ka, (also known as acidity constant, or acid-ionization constant) is a quantitative measure of the strength of an acid in solution. It is the equilibrium constant for a chemical reaction known as dissociation in the context of acid-base reactions. Whereas a Base Dissociation constant is Historically, the equilibrium constant Kb for a base has been defined as the association constant for protonation of the base, B, to form the conjugate acid, HB+. It is now usually derived from the Ka (the acidic dissociation constant). Let me know if you were looking for something else more explanatory. Thanks, Tarun |
