iso nitriles are described by two resonance structures, one with a triple bond between the nitrogen and the carbon and one with a double bond between, the first one, with a positively charged nitrogen and a negatively charged carbon is the most important one and describes most closely the resonance hybrid. Iso nitrlies are isoelectronic with CO. Thus, the C=N-CR3 (R = hydrogen or an organic group) is linear. They are susceptible to polymerization.
