The displacement y of a particle executing periodical motion is given by y=4cos^2(t/2)sin(1000t) where ^ denotes RAISED TO THE POWER This expression may be considered to be a result of the superposition of how many independent harmonic motions??

the answer is three..expand 4cos^2(t/2) as 2(1+cost)(sin1000t)
this will give 2sin(1000t)+2sin(1000t)(cost)
so finally u will get 2sin1000t+sin1001t+sin999t
so three harmonics :)
