 napthelene is soluble in ether Because naphthalene is a non-polar compound, so it can only dissolve in non-polar solvents. Ether is a non-polar solvent like naphthalene, but water is a polar compound because oxygen is relatively much more electronegative than hydrogen. "Like dissolves like", therefore naphthalene will dissolve in ether because they are both non-polar.
