suppose a lion is standing, and it wont allow another lion to come inside his nearby area, but it would allow other animals to come.

Like that suppose a charge is standing, it wont allow a like charge to come..but it would attract unlike charges to come, and the area upto which a charge can affect other charge is called an electrict field of that charge. And it is not a finite area..

But it has been seen that, and electrict field exist as some lines of force, from +ve to -ve(standard), but it may be from -ve to +ve, but you have to change a few things. Lines of force is a path that a positive charge will follow, when kept in an electric filed.
